Mortality Management using on farm freezers and recycling to improve bio-security and environmental impact of commercial poultry farms

The poultry industry's importance to the Delmarva Peninsula cannot be overstated. There are approximately 1,700 family farms growing nearly 11 million chickens per week for five chicken companies, according to DPI. Those companies operate 10 feed mills, 13 hatcheries, and 10 processing plants – providing direct employment for more than 14,000 people locally.

The industry’s tremendous success is attributable to the hard work and ingenuity of its people. To ensure that the next 100 years are as prosperous for the industry as the last, it must continue to evolve and adapt. That’s where we can help.

Our mission is to promote the sustainability of the poultry industry by developing and offering low-cost alternative practices with positive environmental impacts.

That’s what we set out to do in 2012 with a new method of mortality management. Based on a concept that had been introduced elsewhere two decades ago, we developed an alternative for Delmarva that eliminates much of the grower's work as well as the environmental and bio-security issues associated with composting.

Today, our products and services enjoy the acceptance of growers and integrators, as well as the regulatory agencies charged with overseeing nutrient management practices. Our method is an approved best management practice (“BMP”) in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia – and therefore eligible for federal and state cost-share programs.

We’re headquartered in Millsboro but provide environmentally-friendly resource recovery products and services to growers, breeders and laying operations across Delmarva.
